And there's nothing like finishing the last of your private bottle of Rum just as the sun is rising, realising there's nothing left at the party except a handful of soggy cheese straws and the dregs of the cheap 'box' sherry that nobody really wanted anyway.

This is the time of day when you look behind the furniture to see if any of 'the fallen' had tucked away a bottle or two 'for later'.  Or under the bushes in a garden.   Or the outside windowsills of a block of flats.

Sometimes you'd find a quarter bottle hidden in the cistern if there was another 'serious drinker' there.

If not, it was long time until you could buy any more.

I'm glad those days are behind me, but I wouldn't have missed them.  No regrets ;-)

Luckily, I have not had to deal with this particular vice. I have others which have sustained me through a long life.

Rather than trying to live a vice-less life there's a lot to be said for picking your chosen vice carefully, and having an exit strategy.  Even if you think you'll never need it ;-)

I have been trying to get out of my chair and watch fewer videos. I have had some success. My health insurance pays for something called Secure Senior Connection because old farts like me can get rather isolated and that can be (or has shown to be) detrimental to overall health. So they built this place where we can gather and talk to mirages. Like here, but all American old farts.

They also have classes/seminars/lectures via Zoom and they also have some social meetings via Zoom. I've been trying some of these. Many have been successful/nice/informative/interesting. One was horrible and not to be repeated.

Yesterday I tried a new thing and it worked out fairly well. I will give this one another go when they provide another session in two weeks. I've met some nice people. I've also met some weirdos. I don't really know which camp I fall into for the other members.

Probably depends on their viewpoint.  We all see others through the lens of our our own perception.  I know a handful of people who truly don't like me.  This suits me fine as I don't have to avoid their company;-)

I've come to realize that 'normal' friends  don't exist 🤔

Normal is subjective I suppose

At Silver Sneakers today, one of the people who came all the time had disappeared for quite some time. Months and months. She was back today. It was good to see her again.

It can sometimes be very satisfying to revive an old but lapsed friendship.

One of the You Tube channels I like decided to make some changes. Instead of two 15-25 minute videos per week, only one longer video will be posted. This was the first week. The video was 50 minutes long. I didn't watch it. I really have the attention span of a gnat and to watch something for nearly an hour is exhausting for me. Especially when it is really a 15-25 minute story wrapped up in 50 minutes of bullshit.

Sue Grafton lost me as a reader when she decided to wrap her cute little 250-300 page stories in 500 pages of prose. The stories were the same just with more verbiage.

I'm not sure what the allure of longer is, but I find it not that alluring.

I'm glad I went on twitter years ago. I made some friends there all over the planet but around here too. Met up with some.

Over here we are taking the day to be Thankful by overeating and fighting with family members who annoy us. Tomorrow we get back to the normal overeating and fighting with annoying family members. Today is so special.

Tried Twitter many years ago,got bored at shouting in the void 😑

I joined mastodon 4 days ago.I have 15 followers.

Nothing more than people trying to be witty.

The trick is connecting with those with similar interests etc

I never did figure out Twitter. I have an account, I think. I don't know, really.
