I never knew what a box-cutter was until I heard the terrorists had used them in the twin towers attack.  I'd used the damned things, but to me they were just a small knife, ideally folding, with exchangeable blades.

When I spent most of one day on the production belt assembly line at Nintendo opening boxes of game cartridges, etc, for other people to pack appropriately, and being cursed for working too fast by the other minions, I used my own knife instead of the horrible blunt box-cutter they provided.

It slipped through cardboard and tape like...  Well, like a properly sharpened knife.  Using it with a seemingly reckless flourish also had the benefit of ensuring me adequate  elbow room, when everyone else was packed shoulder to shoulder along the belt  ;-)
