I'm first one up - in my part of the world.

Good morning, good day and good evening to you all.

And here I am now. Winning at this.

I'm mostly ready for Christmas which we will have a couple days early because ... well Firefighters have the same crappy kind of schedule as hospital nurses. That 24/7 coverage stuff messes up the usual calendar things.

IF and only if, Barbie clothes show up here in time, I will be making some Barbie clothes to match the clothes I made for Frankie. No writing tho, it will be way too small.

I hate filling in forms, though I should be getting good at it by now.  At least once upon a time forms were read by human beings, but now every letter has to be in its own little designated box, so that it's machine readable.

Words should not be constrained in this manner.  The damn machines should learn to read properly, without needing the mechanical equivalent of large print.

Artificial Intelligence?  Artificial Stupidity more like.

Bah!

I listened to a TED talk about this and apparently reading is far more tricky that we imagine. The words might mean this out of context, but in context mean something entirely different. Especially if it is some kind of slang phrase. It's the same difficulty with translation programs. Just because a word as this definition in the OED, doesn't mean that's what we are using it as.

All the more reason for leaving it to flawed, imperfect, but amazingly versatile human beings instead of machines.

Morning barflies, it certainly is a lovely week

Really?  You've been grumbling about it on the weather thread.

Firefly

Well aside from the weather, its all the Christmas business, I love it!!

Hate the crowds though, its the at home stuff I like  ;D

How did we get to this point in the year so quickly?

That's the curse of getting old.

For my granddaughter, she has lived 12.5% of her life since last Christmas. I've lived 1.5% of my life since last Christmas, so they seem to just fly.

Man, don't make me start measuring out percentages. That's scary perspective.
