Gyppo

deliquescent;-)

I've loved the sound of this word ever since I first encountered it at school.   Along with efflorescent and hygroscopic.

Literary note: Daphne du Maurier had a boat called Yggdrasil

literary

Gyppo

young

Jo:  I read about that boat in something Daphne D wrote years ago.  She said that her husband spent an inordinate amount of time and money on fitting larger and more powerful engines but 'yygdrasil, indifferent to this, just kept on pushing towards the horizon at its own self-appointed pace'.

That may not be word perfect after all this time, but it's damned close ;-)  Certainly sounds like the way I 'heard' her voice when reading her words.

gaff

(I can't remember if Yggdrasil was gaff or bermuda rigged, but I know she ended up as a kind of summerhouse, shored up in their garden.)
