My Uncle Alan, a true polymath who loved music, played several instrument, painted, and could also rip off an excellent story or other piece of writing when it suited him, plus some high level mathematics, was sat 'noodling' at his piano one day.

My Gran called up the stairs, "Are you just playing or are you composing."  Seems she'd called him to dinner and he hadn't responded.  But she understood how totally absorbed 'creatives' can get at times.

Alan, who was 'unpicking' a tune he wasn't truly happy with, called back "No, I'm decomposing."

Gran, very understanding, and probably more than a little resigned, just put his dinner back in the oven to keep it warm until he returned to the mundane world.
