"Hay, Jude!"

A Beatles song about an obscure and somewhat lazy stable-hand.  One who had be constantly reminded to refill the haynets before the horses started chomping on the top edge of the stable doors.

For some reason, like far too many Beatles songs, this was believed to be simply 'just another silly love song', which must have been a sore trial to the 'fab four'.

Mule On the Hill  Another Beatles tribute to poor Jude and his constantly thwarted attempts to become a decent groom.  He'd finally got the habit of haying the horses when the resident mule, kept as a companion for young stock, noticed he left its door unfastened while he hung its net up.  Nothing - not a bullet, not Concorde, not an outraged mother-in-law - moves faster than a mule that's got its eye on a bit of mischief.  So no sooner had the cries of "Hay, Jude!" died down than they were replaced by, "Mule - on the hill."  Or, by the testier stable manager, "Mule - for *** love!"

I Would Dye for Ewe

a song about an Irish sheep farmer's plight of trying to get his sheep's butts painted before they were stolen.

Dr Sun.  A modernised rewrite of Dr Syn, in which the smuggling kingpin Vicar has the rectory, the church, the local pub, and most of the village housing fitted with solar panels.

As a consequence the villagers save so much money that they lose interest in traditional smuggling, and Reverend Syn becomes fat and lazy and eventually dies from 'boredom in the midst of plenty'.

The Royal Hunt of the Son  In which a king takes out a contract on his rebellious younger son.  Librarians are unsure whether to file this in the Fiction or Non-Fiction section.
