brush

Mum and Gran both used to refer to silly/stupid  people as being 'daft as a brush'.  I've no idea why brushes were seen as being the epitome of daftness.

It's a northern thing, I think.  We said it - but I've never heard it from a cultured southron.

dastardly

In a lot of old kid's stories foxes were referred to as dastardly.  Poor old Reynard.

warning

A threat is a multi-purposed thing.  It can be a straight forward declaration of intent, such as "I'm gonna knock your block off!".  Or it can be a polite warning to someone who is threatening you, such as "You really don't want do this."

Another interesting thing about threat is that it doesn't have a W in it.  Just saying.
