When technology misbehaves

Yesterday, my laptop was just not doing anything. I opened a browser and it took for damn ever to load and then nothing else would load and I couldn't get my music to play so I could work out. So, I restarted the damn thing and listened to music on my phone while I was in the garage.

The computer had actually restarted by the time I finished working out and then I tried loading stuff and again ... fuck all happened. I am not a patient person, but even less so before coffee. I tried to restart and it spun and spun and after more than 20 minutes, I just powered it down, waited a minute and started it back up and it was still that damn spinning crap. So, I shut it down and waited five minutes and started it and it started back up.

While it was doing all this, I tried using my new little travel bluetooth keyboard with my phone to post my workout numbers online. That didn't want to attach initially, but I got it to connect and it really is going to work when we are on the road. So, that eventually worked.

Then, last evening I noticed that Windows had an update and I needed to restart my computer. Since I really wanted it to work this morning, I did that last night while I played games on my tablet. And it took less than 30 minutes but more than 20 to complete that nonsense.

Seeing that update, I assume my computer wasn't working for ME yesterday morning because Microsoft was hogging all my bandwidth to put their update on my computer and have it available for me to restart at a later time. *I* want my computer first thing in the morning when I'm trying to get things moving. I don't turn this thing off unless I'm gone for days. Push your crap at 3AM, dummies.

I hate updates because they are so intrusive. I have no idea what companies are supposed to do, especially if it is a rather critical patch. But it is mostly like the boy who cried "wolf" and is some bullshit that is unimportant - at least to me.

Anyway, all my technology is working this morning. That's nice.
Imperfect Reason My thoughts, such as they are.

Patti, I'm sure you know this, but you can go into the update settings and schedule updates so they happen overnight, or some other time when you won't normally be using your computer.  But you do have to leave it turned on for this to happen.  Or plugged in if it's a laptop.

Mind you, there's no way of telling what other sneaky electronic stuff it might get up to whilst your asleep.  It might be having a crafty romp with your 'Ring' doorbell or some other part of 'The Internet Of Things'.

If you hear the unexpected patter of tiny electrons check in case you have a baby toaster or fridgeling lurking somewhere on you kitchen shelves ;-)
