We will be going to Mumbai for the first two weeks of October. We thought we might fly to somewhere else in India for a week in the middle. Any suggestions for what to do in Mumbai or elsewhere?

I've learned something interesting today while applying for my visa. India doesn't believe in Atheists - not an option at all on the visa application. Nor is Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster or Jedi Knight. Or even just "no thank you". So I went for Christian.

Sorry Amie, apart from cooking and eating indian food, eating at indian restaurants and a love of the sitar, I dont know India. The nearest i have got to that part of the world is where I was born, Bradford.

I know of a good writers' retreat in Kerala but sadly it's under water after this month's monsoon. I believe Mumbai escaped flooding.

We will be going to Kerala. We are hoping the flooding will have subsided by then. The itinerary is now Mumbai, Goa, Chennai, Kochi, then back to Mumbai
