I've noticed pigs personality change with age,he no longer lunges at (any) Huge dogs.More and more he tends to sleep in the bedroom as I'm in the living room. He's always been the independent sort unlike his sibling bush.Bush is extremely anxious if Mike's not in his line of site...

Pigs is now terrified of lightning  ???
Last Sunday I was up all night consoling the poor baby ::)

On the plus side we visit his first dad and Bush once a week, the boys snuggle up and go to sleep...

Edit: He's terrified of cats ;D

How old is Pigs now?  I think it's natural enough for them to become calmer and less combative as time goes on.  The old hormones settle down a bit and they no longer feel the need to challenge for increased status.  Personally, I prefer adult dogs to puppies, and that's one of the reasons.

If the fear of lightning - or more probably thunder - is new, it may be part of the same process.  Things that stirred his fighting instinct when he was young now make him anxious.  Try to resist holding his paw throughout the drama - in a way you're only confirming that there's something to feel anxious about.  Shut the windows, pull the curtains, play some music, and if there's a dark corner he can retreat to so much the better.  That's what wild dogs would do.  Well, not so much the curtains and the music...

Jo,he jumped in the bath 8) I'm thinking of clearing out my storage room(closet) so he can use it as a calm space

He'll be 9 in November ::) :o

Ps..I've accidentally conditioned him to fear flashes,my old phone sucked at lowlight pics so I had to use the flash.Now, whenever I point the phone at him he looks away

My sister's 100 pound dog is 12 or 13 now and totally distraught with even the most distant rumble of thunder. He tries his very best to crawl into a safe space. Often, it is one in which a 100 pound dog will not fit. Sometimes it is a space in which a 15 pound dog would not fit. But there he is, trying is best to hide.
Imperfect Reason My thoughts, such as they are.
