I have so far written four eBooks, but I'm not gaining any traction in downloads and sales (where paid, as two are free).

I'm not sure if I'm doing anything wrong, or what is leading to no downloads and sales, but if anyone has any advice, I'd be very grateful, as I enjoy writing, and want people to enjoy my eBooks, but it's finding the key to achieving this goal.

I know that I'm not alone, as it's commonplace that many authors, at least initially, struggle to get downloads and sales to their eBooks, but while I write out of enjoyment, with the reader and customer in mind by writing topics within my remit for optimum knowledge that I think would be of interest to people, I'm also very keen to receive ratings and feedback, and sales so that I can achieve all my goals, including affording money to get my car fixed, move to cheaper housing, have new holidays and day trips, run my own website (full or Carrd's one-page website builder) so I can showcase my eBooks, Photography including of Birds, and unrelated material, and consider outsourcing to other people.

If anything, Marketing eBooks is probably The hardest part to succeed in, followed by determining which width and height dimension sizes for photos, as photos can be stretched or unstretched, which can dramatically alter the appearance of each photo.  I use Libre Office with ODT for compiling my eBooks, inserting photos including the front cover in each eBook.

I've only exported into PDF, as I can never get ePUB to display my eBooks correctly, as converters don't work, and eBook validators always display ePUB with errors.


I have clicks on Gumroad, where my eBooks are hosted, and especially on Pinterest, but I'm very keen for people to get the opportunity to read one or more of my eBooks.

At a later date, I'll be writing about a topic that I haven't yet introduced into any of my eBooks - Birds, as I enjoy watching and listening to them, and they are very popular around the world.

I'm glad you're enjoying your writing.  But don't forget to enjoy reading as well.  All you need to know about writing a good book is out there - in good books.  Read enough of them and you'll start to see what makes them better than others.  Things like sentence structure, character building, dialogue.  Apply that to your own writing and see where it gets you.

I have re-revised my Cure eBook cover, and plan to do the same with the other three.

As The Cure is popular worldwide, whereas Center Parcs is well known to people in the UK, Southern Ireland, and some other parts of Europe, not trying to blow my own trumpet, The Cure eBook would be the more likely one to lead to sales.

However, the difficulty, like with any authors, is trying to determine Which audience would be interested in these topics and my two free eBooks, and which topics the audience are seeking that I haven't yet written.

I know that Birds are very popular, so an eBook about birds might also be a likelihood for potential sales.

Having said that, as I'm not a professional cover designer, my efforts of designing covers for my four eBooks will not be as good as if I outsourced them to someone else.

Like with Marketing, I need to be able to earn enough money from eBook sales and/or other means, in order to have the money to afford to outsource to a cover designer and a marketer.

The closest to this that I've got so far is to promote a Gumroad affiliate programme whereby, anyone who affiliates for me, so far just one person, will receive 50% commission every time I receive sales, which would benefit both parties.

What I have noticed, upon checking my Gumroad stats is that. among them, some members from this very forum have viewed my content.

I hope that I can eventually find the key to designing covers that attract positive attention and increase the chances of downloads to my free eBooks and downloads & sales to my paid eBooks, as this would help pave the way for me to eventually outsource to request the services of a professional cover designer and a professional marketer to lead to downloads and sales of my eBooks, and also help me raise the money i desperately need for multiple purposes, that I can't currently afford, of which my top priorities are money to get my car repaired and to move to cheaper housing.
