I remember Dad having a fit of the giggles one Christmas when we opened the hamper and amongst the goodies was box of dates with KUS printed on the lid in a fancy script.

Eventually he shared the joke.  It was an Arabic word British sailors were familiar with, meaning Pussy.  "And I don't mean a cat, Son."

Apparently in Port Said harbour, back on the forties and early fifties the matelots who were still onboard would be tormented by girls in the 'kus boats' circling the ship and offering their wares.  Advertising for when the lads finally got a 'run ashore'.
