Ask a Question / Re: How do you start a story?

its kind of an alternative history thing, don't know if the idea is even workable

Basically its set in Henry the 8th's time, the Queen he had a son with, the baby son dies shortly after birth when the Queen and the baby son are left together, her lady in waiting also had a baby and because she was sure King Henry the 8th would execute the Queen over the baby dying, she swaps her baby son with the baby who died, to save the Queen from going the same way as several other of his wives, in this alternative historical storyline instead of divorcing any of his wives he has them executed for not producing sons

The story plot that I wrote has more detail than this, just stuck as to how to start it without getting caught up in the details of what I already wrote down

(I expect someone will probably use this idea, I'm not great with alternative history so it might end up in the unworkable ideas pile that I end up abandoning)

if it does, I'm happy someone taking this (someone probably already has thought of the whole "what if the son Henry the 8th had survived" thing)

Ask a Question / How do you start a story?

I plan stories out but then my brain decides it's going to go straight on to planning the next story, like its thinking the story is finished so onto the next one, time and time again it does this, is it possible to persuade my brain to work on the story I just planned, instead of going straight onto the next story plan?

Years ago I wrote poetry, trying short stories now, but would love to actually be able to complete a full length story, I'll get the ideas for full length stories then when I'm planning it out properly my brain decides nope not going to co operate for you starting the actual story, onto the next idea

I've managed to write two short stories so far, but other than planning out the events of a full length story I don't get further than that - un co operative brain)

I've got two cats, the 10 year old gets the grumpy grumps as I call them, and can get nibbly and nippy, the 13+ year old I can easily picture managing to delete stuff, one reason why I use notebooks to write stuff then type the short stories up once I don't have either cat wanting my attention

13+ year old we don't actually know her exact age, which is why I type 13+, as 13 is the youngest she would be now, bless her (she's friendly, she likes trying to "help", she kept chewing the end of the pen earlier when I was writing out one of the detailed ideas, think she was trying to add ideas, bless her <3

10 year old bites the pen as well - she believes she's saving me from the evil pen of doom, she swipes pasta if I'm eating it, just because for some reason she doesn't feel pasta (including lasagne) is a safe thing for humans to eat, apparently its evil :D
