Word Play / Sloppy Craftsmanship: a writer training game
December 29, 2021, 03:53:54 PM
So, I had an idea for a game where one person would post an example of something they consider sloppy work and then everyone else would dogpile in looking for the detail that was so egregious. Then, there would be some consensus on who would be responsible for the next example... ad infinitum.*

So, this cartoon is terrible overall but I'm only going to subject you to 13 seconds of it. What do you guys think bothered me so much about this scene that I created a game around it?

*I am fully aware that set a game, pick a winner and then they set the next game is a terrible way to run a game especially on a forum. If you're interested in why that is, let me know because I am more than capable of writing a short article on that topic alone.
The Bar & Grill / One thatollie in a very poor mood
November 18, 2021, 09:38:05 AM
So, I can't access the email account I've had for the last 15 years because Microsoft wants me to verify the account. That would be fine but they want to send a text to the phone attached to the personal information. My landline phone that can't receive texts.

Like, why couldn't I just get an automated call with the code instead of a text?

I want my email address.
TBH, I haven't even been paying attention to what's been coming out for a while but...

Uh... This can't be right, his 3 previous books took over 10 years to come out.
I saw this and can't continue to function unless I post it somewhere.
The Bar & Grill / The new "Too much Free Time" thread
February 17, 2021, 07:34:26 PM
I mean, we've all had far too much free time since the you-know-what  so we should probably have our own too much free time thread. I mean, we could ask the old place to give us the original for old time's sake but I don't think they'll go for it.

So, I present the all-singing, all-dancing, all-those-other-things-you're-not-supposed-to-randomly-do-in-public, all new "Too much free time" thread.

It's long held knowledge that putting "New" in the name and following the old formula exactly is a sure-fire way to make something terrible. So, let's get this hot mess started.

I don't really have any of my own content to post here in the Procrastination Station so I guess I'll just link to some fun videos. That'll do. I might write some stuff eventually though.

Swear warning on this one.
The Bar & Grill / Today's Daily Google Banner
October 05, 2019, 09:24:52 PM
Thought this was kind of interesting.

Today is: the 50th Birthday of Monty Python, the anniversary of Harry Truman's first televised presidential address and also the premiere of Dr. No and the release of The Beatles first single.

Today's Google banner: Happy Teacher's Day 2019?

I don't understand, I thought Google loved History, they're always celebrating some old bint's 114th birthday on their banners for some reason and they're wasting all this historic material.
Convoluted plots have always been something of an obsession of mine. The idea of keeping people interested, regardless of whatever tangential whim you decide to follow, sounds like a lot of fun to me. I grew up surrounded by insane plot twists and slingshots full of storytelling tropes being thrown at the media I consumed.

I like it.

Anyway, here's a video where some guy tries to explain a story and this kinda set me down the path of going "oh yeah, bonkers stories can just be a lot of fun." I mean, the guy's explanation made me chuckle and I wanted to put a link to it somewhere and rambling about plot was something that I used to do so... that.
The Bar & Grill / Your Favorite Song Today

It's simple really, what's that song that you've got stuck in your head today.

For me;

Frontier Psychiatrist - The Avalanches
I went to see the new Star Wars film yesterday. I say new, but it was basically Empire with no plot twist or cliffhanger at the end.
Welcome - START HERE! / Greetings

and stuff.

I think that's a completely appropriate way to introduce myself to people.

Okay, I'm going to go create a bunch of topics so this place feels more like home.
