The Bar & Grill / Linguistic oddity.
A linguistics professor was lecturing his class.
"In English," he explained, "a double negative forms a
positive.  In some languages, such as Russian, a double
negative is still a negative."

"However," the professor continued, "there is no language
wherein a double positive can form a negative."

A voice from the back of the room piped up.  "Yeah, right."

The Bar & Grill / A bit like my life...
May 29, 2023, 08:25:31 AM
For some reason I woke up with this tune on my mind.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GhnV-6lqH8

I fired up the music box and played it whilst I had a leisurely cup of proper coffee before working out what to do with the rest of the day.  Proper 'full fat' Nescafe, not the decaff which has become my normal once I found one which tasted acceptable.  (A lot of decaff coffees taste like mushrooms to me.  I like mushrooms, but not as a drink.)

A little off-kilter this morning, for no obvious reason.  It's a bank holiday, but I'm not a bank.

Blue sky, bright sunlight, and a lively breeze blowing.

Hey Ho, On we go ;-)

I have a theory about Cinnamon buns.

Nobody needs a Cinnamon bun until they smell the thing.  After that absolutely nothing else will so.

There's a reason why craving and lust exist as two different words ;-)

=====

We used to make apple strudel in thirty inch long strips, which we divided into either twenty individual portions, or five bigger servings.  Four strips to a tray for baking, and we'd make several trays of it each week.

One day a customer came down into the bakery from the shop and asked if we could make it without Cinnamon.  The head baker said we could make a a whole strip without for him, but not produce individual slices.  If he wanted to buy a whole strip and then freeze them at home we'd be happy to oblige him.

They agreed on a price and once a month we'd make his special supply, bake it and glaze it, chop it into slices, and take great care it didn't get  confused in the shop.  The customer was happy, but most of us who tried one of the scraggly ends sans Cinnamon thought it tasted pretty much like an ordinary apple pie.  Pleasant enough, but nothing special.

As Andrew said, "The customer isn't always right.  But he's always the customer."
