Luckily, much of Monty Python is timeless and appeals to all ages above 5 though not to every brain. I played the argument to my 5 grandchildren aged 9 to 16 and all but one rolled about laughing and reenacted it to each other.

Their parents were not so pleased when the kids used the same kind of reactions to proper questions and points from the grownups.

The Horrorzine made my imaginary friend story their editor's pick of the year 2010. In my tale a man thought he had amnesia but he discovered he was a girl's imaginary friend. He had to kill off her new imaginary friends for him to stay 'alive'.

I emailed the builder reminding him he said our extension build will start end of July. I asked when is the end of July? He replied 5th September :)

I'm really missing not only proper writing retreats I enjoy such as in Greece and Cyprus but the single weekend in a B&B solo writing retreats here and there, and even the one day in a large cafe. I could, in theory, cycle the 25 miles to a garden centre in Cheshire that has a spacious cafe area, and maybe I will next time we have a decent weather day for it.
Mrs N doesn't understand all this retreat stuff. She doesn't get that I write, edit and think better out of the house, away from seeing cobwebs I should clear or distractions at the front door, etc.
Yet, since the first lockdown, I've written the last two novellas in the Flying Crooked series and polished off a dozen shorts and had them critiqued and beta read and even a few published. Perhaps the need for a writing retreat is all in my mind.
I'm a loony. Always knew it.
