I usually have another one, and she's OK. But my regular GP wasn't available this week, and since I'd already waited too long to get my checkup, I figured her  colleague would be fine. Big mistake. Not falling for that again.

So far I've had either incompetent cardiologists or arrogant ones. I guess I should prefer the arrogant ones.  ::)

I could use a win right now.

Just got back from my GP, who did a condescending "It says here you've come for a checkup for your heart complaints. Is that what the assistant wrote down, or is that your fear?"

Have you fucking read my file, woman? It says right there that I have mitral valve prolapse with mitral valve regurgitation, which needs regular monitoring. I'm not afraid, but it annoys me. I can't live a normal life any more because my heart keeps thinking it needs to run a marathon when I want to sleep. I get out of breath just playing a few scales on the piano for five minutes.

I know - not fear, but KNOW - that something needs to happen, because these symptoms are not going away on their own. They got worse, not better, these last couple of years. Which is to be expected. I have EDS, after all.

So she checks my file, and sure enough, it's in there. Takes my BP, which is fine - even a bit low, as always. Listens to my heart, which, she tells me, runs quite fast. I tell her it's actually not even all that bad right now.

She writes a referral for the cardiologist. Yay, I love those people (NOT!) She also offers to hook me up to a holter monitor, but I decline. "No thanks. Last time I had that my skin took weeks to heal."

"Oh, are you allergic?"

"No. EDS skin."

Does the woman know anything at all about EDS? I'm frustrated to the point of wanting to throttle her. I remained polite, of course. But I might want to write her into a story. Later. When I've decided how exactly to make her life hell.

I'll relieve you of your duty now, Laura. Go and enjoy some downtime. I'll take care of the podium.
