I've found you.
« on: March 10, 2019, 10:51:56 PM »
Hi everyone,

I was once a member of the other place, but it has been about ten years since I was actually active there. I rejoined this week and soon realised that it was missing the key components that had once made it brilliant. So, a trail of breadcrumbs led me here.

My name is Jasmine, and I'm from New Zealand. A long time ago I was a beta reader for Skip; we used to trade stories and critique. I obviously don't know any of you as well as I knew that excellent man (my forum engagement was limited, even back then) but I would really like to be part of this thing that you're all in, if you'll have me. And I'd like to get to know you all.

I was once a dance teacher, but I recently retrained and now work in the publishing industry. It's a buzz, and I just want to keep learning (and only from the best, of course).

Jaz x

Welcome to the new house. Like Fly, I'm sure I remember you.

I was also a beta reader for Skip. I remember sending him this pretty huge email with thoughts on the book and then I get this private message saying something like, "I was hitting publish on lulu as your email came through". We had a bit of a laugh about that one.

Thank you for the warm welcome, everyone. It's great to be here.

I don't doubt that you all miss Skip so much. There's a Māori whakataukī (proverb) that is used in Aotearoa New Zealand to describe the death of someone significant:

Kua hinga te tōtara o Te Waonui a Tāne – A mighty tōtara has fallen in the forest of Tāne.

A tōtara is a huge tree (native to NZ), and Tāne is the god of forest and birds (the son of Papatūanuku, the earth mother, and Ranginui, the sky father). I think quite a few mighty Tōtara have fallen since I was last here. I'm so sorry for you all.

Ollie, I love that story. It aligns with how I remember Skip. I couldn't keep up with him; he managed to produce new stuff and rework at lightning speed. I would come back to him (admittedly, sometimes a little delayed) with feedback and he'd already have completely rewritten the thing and would be working on something else. ::)

Skip would have loved that saying Jas, he would be sitting as proud as punch hearing it  :-*

Yes we lost Skip, then Ma100 then Alice a Country Girl, that we know of. So many we have lost contact with over time, hope they are all well

I hope so, FF :). He had a lasting impact on me, even if our interactions were brief in the big scheme of things.

:( Ma and Alice were such terribly sad losses, too. I can't imagine how hard that was for you all. It must be a bittersweet silver lining that their families have known to reach out to the group; it speaks to the role that you've all had in their lives. I hope, too, that those who have faded into the background are safe and well. xx
