Patti said something similar a while back, after a 'partner workout' at the gym paired her with a young teenager and Patti said "I've got socks older than that child." ;-)

You're not old enough to do that yet, Frank.  Some of them take offence.

When you're properly grey they make allowances for it and don't treat you as if you're condescending.  (But... If you're really being a condescending twat they'll pick up on it and treat you accordingly.)

That one time I mentioned, "Popping the clutch to jump-start a car" to a few teen aged boys who looked at me as though I had three eyes.

True story happened this morning.
On the phone with my phone company.
Them: "What's the name of your first pet?"
Me: Might have said wife's name? No - she'd kill me. Not had a pet for 65 yrs. Ah my tortoise Blitzen?
Them: Correct! Hell of a memory!
Yay, now where's my keys?

My daughter tells me a surprising number of the automatic generation still prefer to learn and pass their test on a manual box, because it keeps their options open.

I'm surprised there aren't more like that here. Anyone who's ever driven a stick-shift knows they are more fun than any cushy automatic could ever be, especially on a mountain road.  8)  I miss my five-speed.

Never know when it'll come in handy ;)

I don't get the manual gearbox thing. Driving is just a way of getting from a to b when it is too far to walk. Generally, in the UK it is a frustrating experience and as much fun as chewing a pebble. Why of why would you make it worse by adding extra jobs to do on the way?!

The concept only seems acceptable in cars. Imagine if your oven had a gearbox and to keep the temperature OK, every few minutes you had to press a pedal with your foot and move a stick about. Only a moron would think that a good idea. But transfer the concept to cars and wasting your time pressing pedals and moving sticks is deemed acceptable.  :-\

Here's something that makes me feel old, World Championship Wrestling has been out of business for 17 years.
