The forecast for today was for perfect flying weather, so I took the day off work and went flying. With a friend for company, I flew over Staffordshire and Cheshire to the Welsh border, enjoyed views of the snow topped mountains, then back home with a slight detour over the Derbyshire peaks.

Tomorrow will be a day of rain and meetings about the EU General Data Protection Regulation, but lingering smiles from today will see me though.

Fixed or rotary?  I know you've flown both.

Fixed wind today. The heli is due a maintenance check.

The aeroplane is twice as fast in the cruise at about 180 mph so it takes quite a mental shift switching between the two. The controls are totally different, but you get used to that like you do moving between a motorcycle and a car, it's the speed that gets confusing.

Snow topped mountains from above, there's not a lot more beautiful than that.  :)

Seeing an eagle flying alongside your glider, sharing the same thermal uplift is pretty cool too.   Years ago, but still a clear image.

Using the plane's shadow on the snow to startle reindeer up in the Cairngorms was fun too.  Indefensible, but still fun.

This is from a few years ago, flying an open cockpit gyrocopter (like James Bond's little Nell). My passenger was a pro photographer and captured this perfect shadow. No reindeer about though :)

I got nothing like any of that flying for fun stuff.

But I did go to Walmart yesterday and remained unaccosted. That was wonderful.

I wish the same could be said for Costa coffee shops.  I don't drink the stuff anyway, but whenever I walk by there's nearly always some weirdo or other sat at the pavement tables who decides to talk to me.

As Kizzi often said, "What are we?  Flypaper for freaks?"

So being Una-Costa'd the other day was pure delight.

Unexpected visit from Sis yesterday evening.  Usually she phones first to make sure I'm in.  Dropping off a birthday card and checking I'm still alive.

On the front a man in a Victorian style suit, with a posh walking cane.

Another Birthday?

Well, don't panic old chap

and inside

Today you are younger than you'll ever be again.

Have a good day, Old Bean.

Nothing quite like being home to make you feel better.

Good to hear all went well Dan.  :)
Today is a good day, only a week to go until my beloved stepdaughter is here from London. Haven't seen her in person for a couple of years, so really counting the days. And she's bringing some lovely British sweets as well!

Spoke a bit too soon - the printer isn't sorting itself out.  I'm going to have to return it and get a replacement.  Would have been easier if the printer had been capable of printing out the returns label that Amazon sent me!  Just about enough ink left in the old one to do the job.  Will bundle it all up and take it down to our Post Office today.

Why is this a Life Is Good posting?  Because that is the worst thing that's going on in my life right now.  When you think about it, that makes me a pretty privileged person.

I had a massage yesterday. Jose worked on my knee and made it slightly better. Mostly, he could pinpoint exactly what the problem was which was some oblique odd muscle overused in all my squatting of late. What is really good about is it means I don't have a torn meniscus. Something I've been a bit worried about. Those are fixed with surgery. I didn't want that.
