Too old to love him
« on: January 21, 2018, 09:45:40 AM »

watched him through rheumy eyes
passion askew like his straggly beard
as he boasted of his conquests
each day like yesterday
me, dry like the Sahara
used to be insatiable
several tries to start my fires
he sighed, turned over
I crossed my legs
and embraced Orpheus.

Hi Biola

A sad piece on many levels, but well written I thought.

I'm afraid I didn't get the Orpheus reference. I know the story - love the opera - not sure what it means in this context.

Hi, Biola

As Mark said, sad subject but good writing.  Did you perhaps mean Morpheus rather than Orpheus?

Ah yes, that makes sense.

That's right, Biola.  Morpheus is the sleep guy.   The Greek god of dreams. This is where morphine got its name.

  • My biggest regret is that I didn't write more.

Needed time to think about this one.

I crossed my legs
and embraced [M]Orpheus.

Sounds rather apathetic. Could the sad tone be heightened with a different ending?
I wonder...
