If I'd known...
« on: February 15, 2021, 03:03:44 AM »
If I'd known, fifty-four years ago
that you'd still be here,
the quiet 'ghost in my machine'
despite many precious people,
many loves and losses,
triumphs and disasters,
I'd not have believed any of it
could happen in your absence.

I still expect to meet again one day.
Two old people who have lived,
- and lived well by all accounts -
two completely separate lives.

But, if you die before that day,
I'll lay a flower on your grave,
and privately say goodbye.
And leave your family wondering.

Hm. You've left the reader wondering as well.

A hint of a haunting love story.

Same 'ghost' as the one in 'Fifty Years and Counting.'

She's become a familiar phantom. I quite enjoy looking on from the gallery. ;)
