(I remember first coming across references to 'Soldier Ants' in a story as kid and being totally terrified of the image the words created. It was in a boy's adventure comic. One of the old fashioned sort, with three or four narrow columns of tightly packed text per page which did the magic rather rather than endless frames of line drawings.)
