I was given caffeine (along with phenobarbital and acetaminophen) to keep my migraines away. What part of the chocolate do you think is triggering migraines? There isn't much caffeine in chocolate, certainly less than in my half a cup of pre-workout coffee.

Anyway, it doesn't give me migraines, bright lights were my trigger. I guess a sample size of one isn't much use. Damn science.

Phenobarbital!? Patti, be careful with that stuff.

15 mg.
I told them I was going to flunk my drug test.
I told the lab I was going to flunk my drug test.
I brought my prescription with me to flunk my drug test.

Everyone was in a panic when I flunked my drug test.
I had to get a letter from the prescribing neurologist stating I did not fall asleep at work, especially when on call.
I have no idea how he was supposed to know if I did or not.
They did not ask for a letter from the hospital where they would actually know if I fell asleep at work, especially on call.

I did not fall asleep at work, even on the day I worked 22 out of 24 hours.

BTW, that's a very very small amount of phenobarb. And once I stopped working in OR with all the bright lights, I stopped having migraines. And stopped taking medications for it.

I was given lots of different meds to combat the migraines. Also phenobarbital. Nothing really worked, so I stopped taking it. Sleep helped. so that's what I did. Somehow, as I aged, the migraines got fewer and now I hardly ever get them anymore, so I'm good. Maybe it was the stress of a busy life that did it to me. That wouldn't surprise me. It doesn't take much to throw an EDS-body off balance.

I've heard lavender oil, peppermint oil, (not together) and magnesium help with migraines. I haven't had one since I started taking magnesium supplements. I've not taken the supplements for a while but haven't had a migraine in over a year.

My grandmother went nuts on phenobarbital but she was also an alcoholic so, I'm sure that added to the trouble.

I got rather sleepy on phenobarbital, but that was about all it did for me.

One should not exceed 400 mg /day so my 15 mg was really just a drop in the  bucket.

And now that I'm old, understressed, no bright lights, and free as a bird, I don't get them anymore.

They are rare for me but weirdly enough, after this round of surgery I had a week of them. Maybe the anesthetic bought it on, who knows. Averaging about 5 on the first day, not full blown, the whole blurred sight and dull ache only thank goodness.

Just the blurred sight and dull ache are quite bad enough already, eh?

Have you gained any more use of your hand and arm, FF?

Minimal compared to prior.
I am hoping working on it will help

As a surgical nurse, I have tried valiantly to keep my skin intact at all times whenever possible. I know that we fixed a whole lot of people. I also know I had to turn the pages for the "how to" book for some schmuck to do his case.

I know that it is essential to fix some things. I also know that some things really aren't all that fixable.

I just hope for the best and try to not ever let anyone near me with a scalpel. Well, passing them up to the surgeon didn't ever really scare me. Neither did counting them for the proper paper trail. Just if they come at me.

Admittedly, when I did have surgery, it wasn't the doctor that messed things up, it was the recovery room nurses that let my hand slide down off the bed and hang lower than body level so it swelled up to twice the size it should have been. But nurses aren't infallible either. Says the nurse.

A double sized hand wouldn't exactly be my idea of fun either.

Winning does though.  ;D

Ditto

At the end of the day I am happy if I think they have done the best they could but that is not what I think but no one cares what I think, they got paid handsomely for their lack of effort and that is all they do care about
