I am trying to think of a word or phrase that's in common use regarding an individual's interaction with the internet. If I keep looking into the disappearance of turnip crops for instance,
the internet starts sending me all kinds of information re turnips, the attitude among various groups of people toward turnips, the unspeakable damage being done to turnip fields, etc. What is the word for the process the internet uses to send me information that validates my attitude toward turnips?

Algorithms--is the word I was trying to think of but now I'm not certain I'm using it correctly--any thoughts anyone?

Algorithms are what we non-techies think of as programmes - the instructions that tell a computer what to do.  I suppose there's no reason you couldn't write a programme about turnips, though I'm not sure of the wider implications.  Turnips for all?  A turnip for president - well, OK, that's already happened.  AI turnips take over the world? 

Anyone worrying about the relentless march of progress should view the clip of the Russians' newest robot.  Despite having an anxious-looking minder at each elbow, it managed to fall over at its launch ceremony.  Even the guy whose job it was to hide the disaster behind a sheet couldn't get the sheet to co-operate. 

So if I, a citizen of a country that elects a turnip for president, let's just say, post negative memes and articles on my FaceBook page about President Turnip, then start to notice more and more memes, articles and opinions showing up that also disparage it (sic), what am I to conclude? Is it's popularity sinking or are the FaceBook overlords taking notice of my bias (or excellent powers of judging leadership) and just directing what was already there my way? Is the action of the overlords what I might suspect as algorithms?

I did see the collapsing robot, it's not the AI I'm questioning at this point but my possible tendency toward wishful thinking ; )

Simple answer? - delete Facebook. It's perfectly possible, nay satisfactory, to live life without it.  I do.
